SALVATOR MUNDI

The purpose of this image is to combat negative social imagery and how the remnants of these constructions continue to have contemporary influences.

The goal of this work is to make an argument for the generation of different conceptual frameworks, and innovative methods of inquiry that can be useful in dismantling negative imagery of Black males. My approach of placing a Black male in the mainstream of art may play an important role in changing the way we are seen. Portraying a black male in the likeness of Salvator mundi in turn associates the black identity with positive connotations.

I also thought about the black renaissance and how my image could symbolize the rebirth of the black identity which ought to be held in high esteem.
